The Canada Greener Homes Loan helps Canadians make their homes more energy efficient and comfortable. The loan is offered in conjunction with the Canada Greener Homes Grant under the Canada Greener Homes Initiative to help Canadian homeowners across the county.
We are working with our partners at Natural Resources Canada to deliver this initiative to provide $4.4 billion in interest-free loans, of up to $40,000 per household, helping up to 175,000 homeowners complete extensive home retrofits on their principal residence.
Energy-efficient housing made more affordable with Mortgage Loan Insurance.
CMHC Eco Plus offers a partial refund on the cost of mortgage loan insurance. Buy, build or renovate for energy efficiency and you may be eligible for a refund of up to 25% of your premium.
The Greener Homes initiative is an opportunity for homeowners to invest in their home, making it more comfortable to live in and reducing costs. It is also an opportunity to become better prepared for changes that will come in future with more stringent building codes, including for existing homes and buildings.
These actions will also help Canada meet its 2030 climate change commitments and significantly contribute to Canada’s goal of achieving net-zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2050, while increasing the health and wellness of Canadians.
Retrofitting existing homes — such as replacing windows and doors and improving the building envelope, including by adding insulation — is one of the most effective ways to reduce greenhouse gas emissions.
Under this non-refundable tax credit, Saskatchewan homeowners may save up to $2,100 in provincial income tax by claiming a 10.5 per cent tax credit on up to $20,000 of eligible home renovation expenses. Eligible expenses include the cost of labour and professional services, building materials, fixtures, equipment rentals, and permits.
